IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!
My name is Erin Verlaan and I am the owner/instructor for ENVY Fitness Inc.
I'm a small town girl that grew up on a farm in rural Alberta and moved to the big city of Calgary in 1995 to study Hotel & Restaurant Management at SAIT. With a full course load, a part time retail job, and 4 shifts a week slinging beer at the Ranchman's, I needed an outlet to deal with the stress that accompanies a busy schedule! Back in the day, the weight room at SAIT was located in a dark, dingy basement...this is where my true passion for fitness began! After graduation, I moved my training to the Village Square Leisure Centre...here I met my Muay Thai coach, Keith Crawford. For 2 years, martial arts became an obsession! It reinstated my dedication and discipline to train harder and push to limits I didn't know that I could achieve.
Over the past 15 years, I have worked in many different industries searching for the "perfect job"...I now have the opportunity to work for myself and follow my absolute passion –of working in health and fitness! In 2010, I completed the AFLCA certifications for Group Instruction and Resistance Training and this past January, I completed the CanFitPro FIS Certification for Group Instruction. This April I will be travelling to Toronto to be certified by Fitness Kickboxing Canada at the 3rd annual MMA/Fitness Trainer Development Conference and I am very excited!
With the majority of my time spent at the gym, I also try to sneak in some time for my other "hobbies"...scrapbooking, photography, and projects around the house! This year, I hope to finally get the mountain bike out of the garage! "Fitness" doesn't just happen at the gym, it's about maintaining an active lifestyle and a healthy diet..day in and day out!
